A value given to a digit by the place in which it occurs in the number related to the unit’s place. For counting process, it is very useful for understanding the numeration system. There are three main concepts for understanding numeration system is grouping, counting and place value concepts. Let us see about understanding the concept of place values in this article.

Understanding Place Values for Two Digit Numbers
In two digits problem, there are two place values namely one’s and ten’s.
The first digit from the right side is called one’s place.
The second digit from the right side is called ten’s place.

Here, the first digit 7 represents ten’s place. It tells that there are 7 ten’s in the number 73.
The second digit 3 represents one’s place. It tells that there are 3 one’s in the number 73.

So, there are 7 thousandths in the number 7684. The number 7 is in the thousandths place.
